CoEd Camp 2025
Written by Maggie Smith
This past week I hosted two wrestling camps in my hometown. After the 4th annual Grow Women’s Wrestling Camp came the Smith’s Co-Ed Wrestling Camp. This was the second year I have hosted a co-ed kids wrestling camp and it was such a blast. We had such a range of wrestlers, from 5 years old to 16, both boys and girls.
This year I brought in two clinicians. Day one we had Lincoln Young, who is going to be a senior at Rock Springs High School. Lincoln showed his sweep single series, which includes a regular sweep, a misdirect sweep, a knee-pull sweep, outside step hi-crotch, and a variety of finishes. He also covered a cross wrist and cheap tilt, and several Folkstyle escapes from a quad pod.
On day two, Billy Brenton came up. Billy is from Casper and wrestled for Natrona High School, he now attends Northeastern Junior College in Colorado. Billy showed a variety of takedowns from an underhook, including outside step hi-crotch variations and finishes from a front headlock. He also showed some simple leg riding, an arm bar series, and switches from bottom.
The group of wrestlers we had were very fun to work with, and willing to work and ask questions. As an athlete I understand how frustrating it is when there is limited partners, or no one close to your size. But we improvised, rotated partners often and did our best to give these young wrestlers the best experience possible. Frankly, I sure hope to increase participation numbers at this camp in the future.
I hope to continue hosting this camp as well. It is so fun to work with younger athletes, and see some kids from outside of Rock Springs come to train. Keep an eye out for more information about the 2026 Smith’s Co-Ed Wrestling Camp!
Till next time,
