Introduction
Hi all! My name is Maggie Smith. I have been involved in the wonderful sport of wrestling since 2008. I began wrestling at 3 years old, following my 2 older brothers. Ever since then, I have stayed busy in the sport and am so in love with everything it has brought me. I am from Rock Springs, Wyoming and growing up was a member of Top of the Rock Wrestling club, and competed for Rock Springs High School. I grew up in wrestling rooms filled with boys and it was so rare to see another girl in the wrestling space. However, through middle and high school, women’s wrestling began to grow in Wyoming, and so did my goals and aspirations. By my senior year of high school women’s wrestling became sanctioned in WY and I was one of the first female state champions for WY.
I now attend Colorado Mesa University and am a member of the women’s wrestling team. I am working towards a Bachelors of Science in Biology, a Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science, and a minor in Athletic Coaching and Officiating. I also hope to earn a masters degree in Sport Management before I am done at CMU. In the fall of 2025 I will begin my 18th year of wrestling. It is definitely intimidating to be so committed to the sport of wrestling, along with the responsibilities of being a student, but there is still a strong fire burning inside me to compete and set high goals. I hope to become a NCAA All-American and USA Wrestling All-American. Beyond competing, when I have time, I also host my own wrestling camps, clinician for many local camps, help coach at local wrestling clubs, coach for Wyoming national teams, and officiate many regional and national events.
When I am not wrestling you can find me spending time with my amazing friends and family, hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, or creating art. I am also a Type 1 Diabetic and am working to build a community of type 1 wrestlers, as they are both very difficult to navigate, especially combined.
Overall, I just love wrestling. I love the traits I have built as a competitor and teammate. I am incredibly grateful for the people I have met and worked with through the sport. I am grateful for the teammates that are now best friends, or considered family. I love the grind and the constant ask to be mentally tough in wrestling, as it has carried over to all other aspects of my life. With this platform, I plan to build a strong knit community of like-minded individuals, spread and sell my merchandise, and continue to support all things wrestling!
